I have seen some beautiful restoration work carried out, though many repairs stand out in stark contrast, (mainly due to being being machine made,) rather than blending in with the original fabric of the buildings; flat planes, angular surfaces, perfectly square straight beams spiced into an aotherwise more organic frame, stone work left with the perfectly flat surface of an angle grinder.. etc etc.
I offer my services for the more discerning home owner.
As I work with hand tools and traditional methods, I am able to create authentic items, that have all the suitable nuances that help them blend in with the buildings.
I specialize in crafting replacement or repair of windows, doors, Beams and other joinery, for old buildings.
I am able to replicate any carvings and mouldings found on existing woodwork.
I am also able to forge any furniture, hinges, nails, staples etc, to complement joinery work.
I also carry out general building repair.
Commonly dealing with rising damp, repairing, and replacing damaged and deteriorating brick, stone ,and woodwork.
I specialize in green oak beams, (which can be hewn to match existing tool marks, carvings, roll mouldings, chamfers, etc...) Lime repairs, Wattle and Daub repairs, etc...
A lot of Damp in old buildings can also be caused by the use of unsuitable repairs, carried out using innappropriate modern materials, such as cement render and plaster, modern vinyl paints, and other impervious surfaces, due to their inability to breathe.
